Seaside Heaven, Pint of your finest
Birch Hall Inn
This teensy pocket sized pub is tucked away in the pretty village of Beck Hole around 10 miles south of Whitby. Walking into Birch Hall is like taking a step back in time; the olde worlde feel has been preserved perfectly, down to the rather surreal 1860 sweetshop nestled between the two bars. They also served delicious pies if you are feeling like something more substanial.
The Black Horse
One of the eldest pubs in Whitby, the Black Horse dates back to the 16th Century. Found on Church Street on the main walkway to the Abbey steps, you can't fail to miss it. The tradional interior is split over two cosy rooms featuring one of the oldest public serving bars in Europe. Regularly voted pub of the year, it has an excellent choice of real ales and continental lagers, as well as a decent tapas menu if you are feeling peckish.
The Laurel Inn
Clinging to the side of the main road into Robin Hood’s Bay, the Laurel is probably the best of the watering holes in the village. Ticking all the boxes for the perfect Yorkshire pub, this charming smuggler’s den is pretty much perfect.
The Postgate Inn
Known as "The Black Dog" when it appears in the Heartbeat TV series, the Postgate is a lovely moorland inn just a few miles inland from Whitby. Set in the stunning village of Egton Bridge, it has been beautifully preserved inside and out. Locally renowned food, a picture perfect beer garden out front make it a heavenly spot for a pub lunch in the warmer months.
