Darling Dales, Pint of your finest
Craven Arms, Appletreewick
Gorgeous pub: the obligatory log fires, stone floors and oak beamed ceilings are all present and correct and as well as a romantic beer garden with views to die for. Good choice of ales and traditional comfort food too.
Falcon Inn, Arncliffe
A rambling, eccentric pub in Arncliffe, where time has stood still for the last Century. The beer here is served as it used to be, straight from the barrel to your glass via a porcelain jug – fantastic!
Farmer's Arms, Muker
Set in remote Swaledale in Muker village, the Farmer’s Arms is another historic gem. Plenty of rugged character inside.
Fountaine Inn, Linton-in-Craven
A traditional Inn with a contemporary twist - good option for lunch with food served all day, the Fountaine Inn is a lovely old pub recently refurbished throughout.
George Inn, HubberHolme
A traditional old stone inn on the banks of the River Wharf in Hubberholme. Originally the local vicarage in the 1600s, the pub carries on a tradition started by a vicar centuries ago of placing a lit candle in the window when someone’s home. Good pub food available for lunch and dinner.
Green Dragon Inn, Hardraw
Not many pubs can claim to have their own waterfall; standing as guardian to the magnificent Hardraw Force, the Green Dragon will relieve you of a small fee from you as you pass through to access the falls. It’s worth lingering on your way back through to enjoy one of the ales on offer.
Sportsman's Arms, Wath
Approached via pack-horse bridge, this 17th Century sandstone building in Wath Nidderdale is a pretty alternative to all the dark stone or whitewashed inns around the Dales. It has a genteel, relaxed feel inside and the location is stunning.
Sun Inn, Dent
Hundreds of years old, this hardy village inn makes for a good pit stop. Sample some of the local Dent beers, brewed using spring water from the Dale.
Tan Hill Inn, Reeth
Famous for being the highest pub in Britain, the Tan Hill in Swaledale is around 1,700 feet above sea level. Its location in walking country makes it a firm favourite with hikers, and it’s a welcome sight when all around is miles of wild moorland.
