Shortlisted for hotel of the year by the Yorkshire Tourist board recently, the White Swan Inn is a delightful base from which to explore the beautiful North York Moors.  This traditional 16^th Century Yorkshire Inn is all about old fashioned customer service.  Run by the Buchanan family for over 25 years, you are warmly welcomed into this luxury Yorkshire accommodation from the moment you walk through the door.

There is a real sense of the building’s history as a coaching inn for the main York to Whitby stagecoach; old stone joists and an alleyway dating back to the 1500s are still visible today.  You can just imagine the smugglers hiding from the excise men in the nooks and crannies all those years ago... 

Today the White Swan hotel's interior has a comfy but classical feel, with a choice of traditional or contemporary bedrooms.  In addition to a fantastic restaurant and well stocked bar, you’ll also find a residents only Club Room; a converted beamed barn kitted out with honesty bar, pool table and board games – perfect for a cosy night in. 

Dress for dinner...

The flag stoned candlelit restaurant at the White Swan is locally renowned and nationally acclaimed.  Dining there recently, the Daily Telegraph’s Paddy Burt summarised it as ‘tasty, immaculately presented (and) wonderfully civilised’.  Passionate about local produce and good home cooking, absolutely everything is homemade, including all the bread, chutneys and ice-cream.  Even the ketchup has been lovingly prepared from scratch!  With over 80% of the menu’s ingredients being sourced from Yorkshire, this is gastro pub food at its best...

To accompany this great food, the Inn’s Bar and Cellar has an impressive wine list, from the specially imported range of excellent house wines to a fine selection from Saint Emilion in Bordeaux.  There is a great selection of real ales and speciality beers on offer too. 

Time for bed...

From the sumptuous suites and traditional Inn rooms in the old building to the stylish new rooms in the converted stables; all of the bedrooms in this Yorkshire hotel share a sense of simple luxury. 

The traditional Inn rooms are elegant in that old-fashioned way and all include luxurious bathrobes, White Company toiletries and flat-screen TVs.  The new rooms adopt a more contemporary style, with heated York stone floors, LCD TVs and huge bathrooms with wet-room style showers.

Of the three suites, our favourite is the extravagant Contemporary Suite.  Set over two floors, the upstairs bedroom features French doors leading onto a Juliet balcony, while downstairs you’ll find a huge free standing tub in the lounge, a chaise long and double wet-room shower...
